ANRE decision: Romanian Commodity Exchange will start operating in the Republic of Moldova on the natural gas market
The Board of Directors of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) approved, in a public meeting, the natural gas trading platform operated by Bursa Română de Mărfuri SRL “BRM East Energy”, for a period of 3 years.
"The creation of a natural gas trading platform aims to increase the liquidity and transparency of the wholesale natural gas market in the Republic of Moldova, as well as increase its attractiveness for potential new suppliers," reads a statement from ANRE.
According to the economic expert, Veaceslav Ioniţă, ANRE's decision is a huge step in increasing the country's energy security.
"This extremely important decision comes with the support provided by the European Union for Moldova in the purchase and storage of natural gas. The storage will be possible in Romania, which now also with the EU support increases by 33% or one billion cubic metres its storage capacities," Ioniţă said in a post on Facebook.
The expert also mentioned the new law, which obliges Moldovan operators to have natural gas stocks.
"Through the joint efforts of ANRE, the Government of Moldova and Romania, with the support of the European Union and the Involvement of the Romanian Commodity Exchange, Moldova is taking an enormous step in energy freedom," the expert added.
