Drinking water for the inhabitants of Dărcăuţi village, Soroca district with the EU support

In recent years, most of the wells in Dărcăuţi village, Soroca district, have dried up, and the locals have had to carry water in barrels or cauldrons from neighboring villages. People commuted two or three times a day, especially in the hot summer months. Things changed with the installation of the water storage tower in the locality. The project is funded by the European Union (EU), Moldova 1 TV reports.

For years, the people from Dărcăuţi village have had to carry water with barrels from neighboring villages. The wells in the village have dried up, and in those where there is little water left, it is sandy and of poor quality. They say they are tired of consuming dirty water, now they prefer to consume tap water.

"It was very difficult if we didn't have water in the village. We are right here and the well has dried up. I brought water from the pond ", people say.

The mayor of the village, Oleg Rozimovschi insisted to supply the town with quality drinking water. The construction of the fountain was possible thanks to a grant from the European Union, through the German GIZ Foundation, of over 860 thousand lei.

"In our country, the situation with drinking water, as in most villages in the Republic of Moldova, was very difficult. People had to go to all the springs on the outskirts of the village, to the village of Iarova and bring water for family needs. Thanks to the implementation of the project and with the support of the European Union, we managed to ease the situation. The next step is to bring water to the house of every citizen. At the moment, people are using the distribution point and take the water they need ", says the mayor of the locality, Oleg Rozimovschi.

For the future, it is expected that each household in the locality will be supplied with tap drinking water, with a sewerage system and domestic water treatment.
