The Soviet bunker in Olişcani, transformed into ruins

Historical monuments shrouded in mystery, left in ruins. We are talking about the underground heritage, with an ultra-secret mission, from the Soviet period, which has now reached the will of fate. Among these vestiges is the bunker near the village of Olişcani, Soldanesti district, whose mission, 40 years ago, was the command center in case of war. Currently, the massive cylindrical construction of 12 underground floors has become just an attraction for adrenaline lovers, Moldova 1 reports.

The construction of the bunker in the Olişcan forest began in the Soviet period and at that time it was a secret object. At that time, the authorities invested about 32 million Soviet rubles in construction.

During the Soviet period, access to this road, but also to the forest, was strictly forbidden. Probably because of this, the inhabitants of Olişcani village talk about this construction with fear and even though almost three decades have passed since it was abandoned, people say that they do not know what the mission of the bunker was.

"There was no access there, only the workers went there, there was the army and the workers from Olişcani and from several villages in the vicinity and they went there to work so that no one could enter. I think that even those who worked there did not know what it was”;

According to the Ministry of Defense, which remained in the archives after the disintegration of the USSR, the construction of the bunker began in 1984, and a reserve command post for the General Staff of the South-West Directorate of the Armed Forces Command was to be deployed on the spot.

"This direction was official in 1984, at the same time the creation of a reserve command center began, at that time, it was said, to be located in the forest of Olişcani. It was clear to any military specialist that in case of military conflict, this command center in Chisinau on the territory of the Ministry of Defense would be evacuated," said Sergiu Cataraga, head of the Military History Center.

Although according to archival documents, the security of the secret object was ensured by 1,500 Soviet soldiers, the authorities say that an entire regiment of soldiers with military equipment was deployed on the spot.

"Interesting thing, although there are only two units on the documents, in 1991 when the military coup started from Moscow all the way between the localities of Olişcani, Dobruja and even to Soldanesti, it was full of simple cars, armored cars. If the order had come from Moscow, that military unit that was hidden in the forest of Olişcani and that no one knew if it would reach Chisinau, what a tragedy could happen ...", Sergiu Cataraga added.

Of all the constructions from the past, at present, only the skeletons of two administrative blocks and one residential block remain in the Olişcan forest.
