Fire in a block of flats in Edinet
Five people were rescued by firefighters from a fire on the morning of January 22 - in a block of flats on 19/4 Şoseaua Bucovinei Street in Edinet. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the staircase of the block was engulfed in smoke, after an apartment on the fourth floor was engulfed in flames. Two teams of firefighters intervened on the spot.
Arriving at their destination, rescuers determined that there were two people in the apartment where the fire broke out, and three other people on the upper floors were unable to get out as the thick smoke covered the entire staircase and they risked poisoning. Firefighters rescued the five people as a matter of urgency and managed to hand them over to the medical service.
"People received medical care without the need for hospitalisation. At the moment, people's lives are safe. Going in reconnaissance, the rescuers evacuated another 14 people from the upper floors of the block so that they do not inhale harmful products," reads the communiqué of the quoted source.
As a result of the fire, material goods inside a kitchen with an area of six square meters were damaged, without the fire spreading. The fire was completely extinguished at 8:13 p.m.
The circumstances and cause of the fire are yet to be determined.
According to IGSU, in the last 24 hours, rescuers and firefighters intervened in 73 risk situations.
