More than 800 Moldovans are infected with HIV-AIDS each year. Even though testing is quick and free, more than half of the sick do not know they contracted the disease. To prevent such situations, the authorities have launched an application, so Moldovans can do the test online. An information campaign was also launched today, TV Moldova 1 reports.
After being diagnosed with HIV, Irina did not give up fighting for life. Despite the disease that crushed her, she decided to bring a child into the world. The girl is 14 years old and she is passionate about the ballet.
"Being infected with HIV, in 2004 I gave birth to my second child. My daughter is healthy. Those around me know about my illness, but they have learned to understand that regardless of status, man remains human," Irina said.
According to a study, 4 out of 10 infected people suffer from humiliation and discrimination.
"7% report a suicide trend. Other findings suggest that some infected people could lose their jobs, they might lose income from other personal data are revealed, but they are protected by law," says UNAIDS Country Manager Svetlana Plămădeală.
Specialists say HIV testing is very simple and does not take much time. Self-test based on sample of saliva or blood has a precision of 99%.
"This year, the country has undergone rapid capillary testing," said HIV Prevention Program Coordinator Iurie Climashevschi.
This test can be passed in 15 minutes, through a single blood sample from one finger.
The Republic of Moldova has a national program for HIV / AIDS prevention by 2020.
According to official data, over 830 new cases of HIV-AIDS infection have been recorded last year. Officially, the number of people in our country exceeded 8,500. The "Look For You, Look At Everyone" campaign is dedicated to the World Day for Disease Control, marked annually on December 1.
