Cigarette smuggling attempt at Giurgiulesti customs
At the Giurgiulesti customs, an attempt to smuggle cigarettes was thwarted. In the floor of a car registered in Romania, a specially designed hiding place was discovered in which 9,200 cigarettes were stashed, reports Moldova 1.
The packs of cigarettes were found following a repeated check carried out by mobile customs teams, accompanied by canine experts. The driver, a 32-year-old man with dual citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, told the lawmen before the checks that he had nothing to declare.
The contraband cigarettes were seized for confiscation, and the vehicle - unavailable until all the circumstances are clarified. Additionally, the Customs Service ordered the initiation of a service investigation into the fact that the inspectors in the post did not detect the tobacco products, it is said in a press release from the institution.
