Protest action of carriers in PMAN

Car transporters protested today in the Grand National Assembly Square (PMAN). Over one hundred drivers and road administrators have asked the authorities to double the rates for travel,Moldova 1 reports .

Several representatives of the transport companies came to the PMAN with buses and minibuses. They protest because they are unhappy with the way the authorities are examining their requests to increase travel fares for intercity transport.

Even if last week the carriers had a meeting with officials from the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, where they demanded a 48-mile travel tax increase - to 92 for a kilometer, protesters today say the ministry's promises are false.

The event is organized by representatives from the Employers Association of Car Transport Operators. Carriers have repeatedly requested tariff adjustments in recent years, claiming that they bear losses.

"The representatives of the employers' associations were informed that the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure is in the process of examining the argumentation of tariff increases, analyzing the correctness of the calculation methodology and consulting the members of the Advisory Council in the field of road transport in this process. The MEI is willing to continue the dialogue with the transport operators, as they will come with a clearly defined action plan, including, the gradual adjustment of tariffs, taking into account the citizens' ability to pay, and all decisions regarding tariffs will be submitted public consultations. At the same time, we consider that any request from the carriers to increase the tariff, must come with their assumption of measurable and clear indices of quality for the services provided to the citizens ”, says in the MEI statement.
