The EU is awarding a grant of more than €1 million to strengthen research and innovation
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the signing of the Grant Agreement for the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the European Union Program "Horizon 2020". The contract, worth 1.16 million euros, will be signed in order to consolidate and develop the fields of research and innovation in the Republic of Moldova, reads a communiqué issued by the Government.
Through the grant, the Ministry of Education and Research aims to promote research projects on pressing issues, to develop effective policies to support young researchers, but also to provide adequate financial support for the organization of research competitions for young people.
At the same time, it will be used for research and innovation competitions in the fields of smart specialization (energy, biopharmaceuticals, agriculture and food processing, ICT), which will contribute to positioning the country on specific markets / niches internationally, facilitating private investment.
Also, the obtained funding will ensure the promotion of the integration of the Republic of Moldova in the European Research Area and will increase the impact of scientific research on the development of the national economy and society as a whole.
The Grant Agreement derives from the Financing Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Commission “Support for the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement”, ratified by Law 152/2019.
