Today is International Clean Air Day for Blue Skies

The Republic of Moldova celebrates the International Day of Clean Air for a Blue Sky, on September 7, an action of the Environment Calendar organized in accordance with the resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). According to the Ministry of the Environment, this event emphasizes the importance and urgent need to improve air quality, to increase the awareness of the entire society regarding the importance of preserving and improving air quality, to promote the necessary actions to reduce air pollution.

Air pollution represents one of the biggest threats to the health of the population and is one of the main preventable causes of death and disease globally. The World Health Organization warns that currently 99% of the world's population breathes polluted air, and this fact annually causes about 7 million deaths caused by air pollution.

In 2022, the theme of the International Day of Clean Air for a Blue Sky is "The Air We Share", reflecting the cross-border aspect of air pollution and underlining the need to undertake additional efforts to improve air quality, including reducing air pollution, in the interest of health protection human.

In the Republic of Moldova, air protection and climate change were recognized as main priority areas in the "Moldova 2030" National Development Strategy.
