"Teleradio-Moldova" has not canceled and has not banned the broadcasting of an electoral message of the candidate Renato Usatii
In connection with the statements on public television of the candidate for President of the Republic of Moldova, Renato Usatiif, "Teleradio-Moldova" (TRM) states that it has not canceled and has not banned the broadcasting of his electoral promotion message.
With regard to the statements made by Renato Usatii, candidate for President of the Republic of Moldova, "Teleradio-Moldova" (TRM) states that it has neither canceled nor banned the broadcasting of his election promotion message.
The respective electoral contestant sent an audio message in audio format to TRM, which was to be broadcast on Radio Molodva on September 30 during the free airtime granted under paragraph 40 of the Regulation on the coverage of elections by media outlets. The message contains the phrase “I am for banning LGBT propaganda in schools”.
Paragraph 41 of the Regulation states that “incitement to discrimination is prohibited in election-related programs”. In addition, given that this topic has been used in the past for the purposes of manipulation, misinformation and the promotion of false news, TRM respectfully asked the electoral contestant in question to remove the phrase from the message. At the same time, the company informed him that, if he did not do so, it would ask the Central Electoral Commission to rule on the matter. Therefore, TRM neither canceled nor banned the broadcasting of the message in question, but only discussed it with the electoral contestant and the CEC.
The TRM is monitoring compliance with the law and will continue to check the content of all election promotion messages and election advertising spots to ensure that they do not conflict with the Regulation on the coverage of elections by media outlets, paragraph 76 of which expressly states that “the responsibility for the broadcasting of election advertising that contravenes Law no. 62/2022 on advertising lies with the broadcaster of the advertising”.
Under these legal conditions, our institution, while assuring the public that it does not wish to intervene in the political process and is aware of its neutral status, which it will take into account from now on, is taking care that the language used by politicians on its distribution platforms, corresponds to the civilized character provided for by the legislation.
