Poet Grigore Vieru would have turned 87 years old
He was born on the day that love is celebrated in the world. 87 years ago, Grigore Vieru was born in Pererâta - the poet who glorified in his writings the love of mother, country and nation. On this occasion, the book “Grigore Vieru. The poetic work. The anthology of love poetry ”, edition made by the Cultural Association from Botoşani will be launched. Also, the bust of the great poet will be unveiled, made by the Romanian sculptor, Petrică Buhnici, notes TRM.MD.
On February 14, several libraries in the country announced that they would organize poetry recitals and book exhibitions on this important day to pay homage to the great Bessarabian poet.
Grigore Vieru was born on February 14, 1935, in the village of Pererata, Briceni district. He wrote over 60 books of verse for children and adults. His work has been published in 15 countries. In 1996 he was decorated with the "Order of the Republic". In 1990 he was elected an honorary member, and in 1993 - a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy.
His poems have inspired dozens of artists from our country, and Grigore Vieru's lyrics was put on notes. Anastasia Lazariuc, Sofia Rotaru, Iurie Sadovnic, Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici were just some of the artists who sang his lyrics.
The renowned poet passed away on January 18, 2009, following a car accident.
Grigore Vieru is named after a boulevard in Chisinau and several educational institutions in Moldova.
