“Arci and the Forest Council” – the first election-themed book for children
“Arci and the Forest Council” – the first election-themed book for children was released with the support of UNDP Moldova on 27 October 2022 in Chişinău. The book written by Ionela Hadârcă and illustrated by Lică Sainciuc was created at the initiative and with the contribution of the Centre for Continuous Electoral Training (CCET), within the project “Enhancing democracy in Moldova through inclusive and transparent elections”, funded by USAID, Mesager reports.
A rarer picture these days: people lined up to buy the book. Some also bought several volumes "Arci and the Forest Council " by Ionela Hadârcă.
"I really like Ionela's way of thinking and writing and because I have many friends, relatives, who have children, I want them to enjoy what Ionela writes";
"We have a very large library for children at home and we gladly participate in all book-related events."
The work will help to train the children's electoral skills.
"We set out to re-use the character, that little hedgehog, a mascot of the Center for Continuous Training in the electoral field that was created in 2019, to bring electoral messages and notions to children in an easy-to-understand language," says Doina Bordeianu, Training Center.
"Talk to the children about the importance of their own decisions and their impact on the community. What does the election process mean, how do we participate, how do we build our society", said Ionela Hadîrcă.
"An unusual story, a very attractive project", said the writer Claudia Partole.
"I'm happy for the book, now I'm holding it in my hand for the first time, it's very beautiful," said Maria Hadîrcă, Ionela's mother.
" The hedgehog is a symbol for us, and Lică's illustrations. And he is a kind of hedgehog, so creative", says the poet Ion Hadîrcă, Ionela's father.
"It was a dream to collaborate with Lică Sainciuc, the painter I admire a lot and I'm glad it came true," said Ionela Hadîrcă.
In a democratic society, everyone's opinion and vote matter is the message of the volume that appeared from the initiative of the Center for Continuous Training in the Electoral Field. In these days, two other books by Ionela Hadârcă published in the Ukrainian language were released.
