The poet Nicolae Dabija passed away
Renowned poet, publicist, academician, active participant in the national liberation movement Nicolae Dabija passed away this morning on the hospital bed, following the complications caused by COVID-19. The entire scientific and writing community expresses its deep regret, posting messages of compassion on social media.
Nicolae Dabija was the editor-in-chief of the publication "Literature and Art". The publication was in the years 1988-1989 the most important means that supported the return of the Romanian language to Latin spelling and its decree as an official language in the Moldovan SSR.
Since 2005, he has led the Democratic Forum of Romanians in the Republic of Moldova, a non-governmental organization of culture and law, with branches in Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Israel, Italy, Greece, Serbia, Latvia, Georgia.
Nicolae Dabija was a deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova (1990-1994 and 1998-2001) voting in 1991 the Declaration of Independence.
Among the literary creations of the poet, publicist and screenwriter are the cycle of poems "The Third Eye", "Unfinished Water", children's poems "Stories from when the Pasarel was small", the cycle of essays "In the footsteps of Orpheus", the novel "Home Work".
His literary work has been appreciated with various awards at festivals in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, especially being mentioned his activity in the field of science. Nicole Dabija held the honorary title of "Emeritus Man" and the Order of "Cultural Merit" in the rank of high Officer "as a sign of high appreciation for the promotion of Romanian culture, language and spirituality."
Nicolae Dabija was born on July 15, 1948 in Codreni, Cimişlia district. In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the State University of Moldova.
