EIB and the EBRD provide the Republic of Moldova with a total loan of 60 million euros
The Republic of Moldova will access a loan of a total of 60 million euros from the EIB and the EBRD. The money is to be used for energy rehabilitation of buildings across the country, with a focus on those for social use. Agreements in this regard were concluded today, 15 December, in Brussels. The event was also attended by the President of Moldova Maia Sandu, as well as Katarína Mathernová, Deputy Director General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the project "Energy Efficiency of the Republic of Moldova", which will be implemented in our country based on the agreements signed today in Brussels, will allow the launch of a national energy rehabilitation program for buildings with social purpose in Moldova. Beneficiaries are public institutions of national importance, such as republican hospitals, but also those of local and municipal importance - kindergartens, schools, municipal and district hospitals. Thus, only by rehabilitating the hospital institutions, annually, more than 250 thousand patients will have better services, and the state will save at least 5.2 million euros.
According to the source, the project involves two loans of 30 million euros each from the EIB and the EBRD and a grant of 2.8 million from the European Commission's Neighborhood Investment Platform and the Technical Assistance Trust Fund for PaE countries.
Also today, the Letter of Intent on the EIB's availability to grant a loan of up to 150 million euros for the "Moldova Roads IV" Project was signed. With this money, more than 150 kilometers of priority roads will be rehabilitated, modernized and extended across the country, and a modern road infrastructure means additional benefits for people and the economy.
