Expert: The price of gas for the Republic of Moldova could decrease starting from October

The decision of the Extraordinary Situations Commission to postpone the payment by "Moldovagaz" of the value added tax is justified under the current conditions, according to several national experts. At the same time, they mention that starting from October the price of gas for the Republic of Moldova could decrease, but Gazprom could stop deliveries, reports Radio Moldova.

Postponing the payment of taxes to the budget, of 165 million lei for the current months of April and June, is a justified decision, believes economic expert Viorel Gîrbu, stating that "Moldovagaz" is facing a budget deficit, determined by the accumulation of debts from consumers.

"It is a financial support offered by the Executive for "Moldovagaz", and this support is justified in the not very good financial situation of the company. The financial situation of the enterprise "Moldovagaz" is the consequence of the following problems: debts from the payment of invoices. "Moldovagaz" must deal with these debts on its own, because it is not the state's problem," Viorel Gîrbu said.

The Extraordinary Situations Commission took this decision for the time being, after having estimated the deficit recorded by "Moldovagaz", so that the debt can be paid by August 20, according to energy expert Victor Parlicov. But as long as the tariffs do not cover the costs, in September the situation can be repeated, he says. The expert mentions that from October the import price of gas could be reduced, because the calculation formula will be changed. Victor Parlicov, however, does not rule out that Gazprom could stop deliveries, referring to the fact that the Republic of Moldova has not begun to pay its historical debts.

"The amount of the VAT exemption was calculated in such a way as to solve the "Moldovagaz" problem by August 20. Afterwards, a solution will be taken for September 20", said Victor Parlicov.

We remind you that, on Friday, the Commission for Exceptional Situations decided that the payment by "Moldovagaz" of the Value Added Tax on natural gas should be postponed until September 30. The decision was taken in the conditions in which "Moldovagaz" claims that it does not have the money to pay for the gas imported from Gazprom, because the current tariffs are lower than the purchase price.
