Moldovan fruits are increasingly appreciated by European consumers. This year, over 600 tons of Moldovan plums reached the shops in Germany. According to Moldova Fruit Association, Moldovan fruits have reached German consumers through a marketing cooperative in Germany, Radio Moldova reports.
Moldovan producers could sell their fruit in the European Union (EU) due to quality certificates. Moldova Fruct Association argues that it is necessary to negotiate the increase of tariff quotas for Moldovan plums exported to the EU, which is currently 10,000 tons, under the Free Trade Agreement Moldova-EU. The customs duties for a truck of plums exported to the EU outside quotas reach up to 2,800 euros.
Moldova produces more than 90 thousand tons of plum annually. In 2018, more than 15 thousand tons of plums reached the EU market, and 19 thousand tons have been exported so farfrom the 2019 harvest.
