Ion Chicu: We will request again the cancellation of the concession of Chisinau Airport
The Chisinau Government will request again the cancellation of the concession of the Chisinau International Airport. In an interview for Free Europe, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that the airport concession company would not have fulfilled its investment commitments, which gives the authorities the authority to request the termination of the contract. Also, the head of the Executive says that more and more citizens choose to travel by plane and not by car or train, and for this reason, it is necessary to build two more airports, reports Moldova 1 TV.
"The government has 2 solutions for this contract. We are not satisfied and we do not want to continue with the concession. The first was to declare the contract itself void on the grounds that it was concluded illegally. The second and the possibility of termination is the evaluation of Avia Invest's fulfillment of the investment obligations”, said the prime minister.
According to Chicu, the government has already made an analysis of the people who could travel through an airport to be built in the north of the country.
"Look at the dynamics of passengers. Chisinau International Airport reached 2.8 million. New flights are launched. Look at the Hungarian low-cost company. Every month it opens new routes. There are passengers, we have many of our citizens who come by plane, not by car or by train. There are many foreign citizens coming to Moldova. We need infrastructure in order to develop the tourism sector”, said Ion Chicu.
Earlier, Ion Chicu requested the completion by February 1 of the assessment of how Avia Invest, the company that manages the Chisinau International Airport, fulfills its contractual obligations.
We remind that on December 23, billionaire Andrei Goncearenko officially became a beneficiary of "Komaksavia Airport Invest", which owns 95% of Avia Invest.
