Wave of price increases - the challenge of 2021
2021 was a challenging year for Moldovans. Fuel and food prices are the events that have most affected citizens since the beginning of 2021, Mesager reports.
In February, tarrifs were set, so a standard 95 liter of gasoline ended up costing 18 lei and 25 bani, the price increased on average, by 60 bani. Diesel fuel became more expensive by 50 bani, and reached up to 15 lei and 55 bani.
For seven months, diesel and petrol at PECO stations were being sold at an ever-increasing price. Subsequently, it was decided that ANRE would regulate fuel tariffs. However, this did not improve the situation. Currently, gasoline costs almost 21 lei, and diesel about 17 lei.
Prices for fresh vegetables and fruits have risen. Dairy, sugar, cereals and honey prices rose slightly in March. Subsequently, the summer drought affected the agricultural production. Thus, sunflower oil is also becoming more and more expensive.
In 2021, the government will also focus on social issues. At the beginning of April, the decision is made to increase pensions by almost four percent.
A new pension increase happened in September, the minimum pension reaches up to 2000 lei, for people who have a full contribution period.
The project that introduces a new category of pension - the early retirement one - was voted. Thus, men will be able to retire early if they are 39 years of contributory experience, and women - 35 years and 6 months. In the meantime, it has been decided to increase the retirement age for women to 60 and for men to 63.
Meanwhile, our country is facing several crises. In addition to the price, in the spring, the asphalt crisis is being discussed in the public space. This has been delayed due to the delay in the transition to European standards for its production and application. Thus, the entrepreneurs had stopped producing asphalt mixtures, and the roads were abandoned, drivers even more dissatisfied. In the autumn, there are new increases in prices and another crisis, that of natural gas. A gas alert has been issued in the country. Some methane gas stations are shutting down.
Despite the pandemic crisis that has emptied the pockets of Moldovans, real estate prices have also exploded this year. Bread and some services are getting more expensive.
Late in October the authorities announced the signing of a new contract with the Russian concern Gazprom, which meant overcoming the crisis. However, Moldovans have had to deal with doubling tariffs. Both electricity and heat are more expensive. The wave of price increases is taking carriers out into the streets. Thus, protests are organized in November.
In the meantime, the EU is helping us with more grants to overcome economic crises. We end the year with the increase of the salaries of the auxiliary employees and the compensation of the bill by the Government.
