The EU offers over 200 million lei for energy, water and sewerage projects in the south of the country
The inhabitants of the south of the country will benefit from energy efficiency projects and quality water supply and sewerage services worth over 211 million lei. The money will be provided by the European Union.
According to the South Regional Development Agency, construction work for EU-funded projects in the city of Leova was launched on November 4 and will be completed by the end of 2021. Investments will provide residents with quality water supply and sewerage services, as well as better educational conditions for students and teachers in two schools.
"I am glad to see that the financial support of the European Union concretely improves the quality of life for a thousand students from Leova and Basarabeasca, as well as for teachers and citizens from these localities. Energy efficiency, as well as water supply and sewerage will provide better study conditions for students, will contribute to the modernization of infrastructure in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova, to improve the quality of water supply and to implement wastewater treatment measures to protect the environment. ", Said the head of the Operations Section within the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova, Magdalena Mueller-Uri.
"Energy efficiency is a key technical sector of German cooperation and we are all aware that Moldova considers it the largest energy resource. The implementation of this project is a clear sign that we care about the future not only from the perspective of energy balance, but also of future generations," said Prime Secretary Achim Mortier, head of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development at the German Embassy in Moldova.
The construction works within the projects will include a series of modernization measures. Thus, the energy efficiency of the Theoretical High School "Constantin Spătaru" in Leova and the Theoretical High School "Matei Basarab" in Basarabeasca will include roof repair, insulation of building walls, replacement of windows, rehabilitation of heating system, hot and cold water supply to taps from schools and the renovation of the sanitary facilities of the institutions.
The total value of the energy efficiency project of the Theoretical High School "Constantin Spătaru" in the town of Leova is 53 million lei, of which 50.5 million lei granted by the EU and 2.5 million lei - the local contribution. At the same time, the energy efficiency project of the Theoretical High School "Matei Basarab" from Basarabeasca amounts to 19.9 million lei, of which 19.2 million were provided by the EU and over 700 thousand lei local contribution. The total number of beneficiaries in the two high schools is almost a thousand students, teachers and auxiliary employees.
At the same time, the construction of the centralized sewerage system in the town of Leova will include 13.5 km, to which over 690 individual households will be connected. And the localities of Iargara, Cupcui, Filipeni and Romanovca will benefit from the construction of a 99 km aqueduct network, which will modernize the infrastructure of water supply services, will increase the connection rate and the access of the local population to quality drinking water, thus contributing to improving living conditions.
The total value of the investment measures for water supply and sewerage is 138.5 million lei, of which 125 million lei granted by the EU and 13.5 million lei - the local contribution. Approximately 12,000 inhabitants of Leova and the localities of Iargara, Cupcui, Filipeni and Romanovca will benefit from the water and sewerage projects in the Southern Development Region.
