Veaceslav Ioniţă: For the first time, Moldovans bought currency worth 400 million dollars
During the last month, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova bought currency in the amount of 400 million dollars. Due to the uncertainty and fear of the war in Ukraine, the citizens made purchases in foreign currency in order to protect themselves and to create reserves, according to the economic expert, Veaceslav Ioniţă, Radio Moldova reports.
"For the first time in the history of Moldova, in March 2022 we had a net supply of negative currency, people sold more currency than they bought, we could practically say that the population froze all its consumption intention and we had sales net of negative currency. In this way, we had this panic, now it's exhausted. The war in Ukraine has led to unrest in the population, which has caused increases of about $ 400 million. In the coming months, we will probably talk about how people bring the money back and how the 400 million dollars that were procured will be successfully sold back ", mentioned Veaceslav Ioniţă.
According to the economic expert, a record was set last year, when citizens sold four billion dollars and bought half of them.
