European Commission backs EU candidate status for the Republic of Moldova (VIDEO)

The Commission recommends that the Council grant the European perspective and candidate status to the Republic of Moldova, provided that our country implements some important reforms. The announcement was made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. "The European Commission has adopted its opinion on the application for accession to the EU by Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia. We have adopted these opinions, after a very careful analysis of the merits based on the criteria of Copenhagen and Madrid ", mentioned the president of the European Commission.

"Recently, the Republic of Moldova has taken decisive steps towards reforms, with a clear mandate from the citizens. It is a real pro-reform, anti-corruption and pro-European path, for the first time since independence. Of course, the Republic of Moldova has a long way to go. The economy and the public administration system, in particular, need major improvements. But because the country's leaders are keeping up, we believe that the country has the potential to meet all the criteria, "said Ursula von de Leyen.

The European Commission has also recommended that Ukraine apply for EU membership.
