Ambassador: The Republic of Moldova meets the conditions for EU membership
The Republic of Moldova must present a mapping on all areas of the situation we are in. This questionnaire will show if we are ready to start the process to become a candidate for accession to the European Union (EU). Subsequently, there are many other stages, which involve the initiation of negotiations on each chapter, of which one of the most complicated is that of justice. The opinion belongs to the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Brussels, Daniela Morari, during the show "Joi cu Liliana Barbăroşie", on Moldova 1 TV.
"In order to start and to end each chapter, we need the unanimous support of the EU Member States and the EU Council. Therefore, if we fail to make progress at every stage, especially in the area of justice, we will not be able to move forward on the path of accession. But now in order to be classified as a candidate state, the Republic of Moldova meets the minimum necessary conditions that could allow this ", said Daniela Morari.
The ambassador mentioned that we are now in part one of the questionnaire, which involves political and economic criteria. During this week, our country will receive the second part related to the compliance with the EU legislation and the Acquis.
Daniela Morari mentioned that it is a huge effort for the institutions of the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, she is confident that our country will be able to answer the questions in a few weeks. "Now the questionnaire screens all areas. In terms of political criteria, it also includes the rule of law, civil society, public administration, public service, public finance management, justice and anti-corruption, human rights, national minorities. It is important to present what institutions we have, what legal framework certain elements to ensure the independence of the judiciary ", she declared.
The ambassador also said that it is now important to answer the questions directly, and in the process it will be clear where the additional expertise of the experts who worked with similar questionnaires is needed.
For his part, the Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau, Daniel Ionita, mentioned that the Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, Bogdan Aurescu and Nicu Popescu met in Luxembourg, on which occasion Romania expressed its full readiness to assist the Republic of Moldova to answer to these questions. Ionita said that this is a technical expertise, which will be granted, at the request of the Chisinau authorities. "Many languages are spoken in Brussels, but the language that matters in the technical dialogue is the so-called 'Brussels language'. Those answers should be as technical as possible. (…) We have people who have actually worked on these files for expertise. I spoke to Nicu Popescu today. In the next few days, depending on the needs, our offer will be accessed ", Ioniţă pointed out.
The diplomat also said that the first questionnaire will be followed by a more technical questionnaire, which will address the issue of relevant ministries, after which it will enter the stages of evaluation, decision, Council, start of negotiations on the 35 chapters, following that in the end, the Republic of Moldova, by a consensual decision of the 27 member states, be invited to join the EU. "The road to the EU is long, but I think it is also in the interest of the Republic of Moldova for this road to be traveled properly, and the accession process itself is not a race against the clock, we are not talking about sprinting, but about a marathon. It is about having the necessary energy to properly dose your efforts during the marathon, and the accession process to be a process of quality, not speed ", said Daniel Ioniţă.
The ambassador is confident that our country will succeed in joining the EU. "We believe that the EU will benefit from the rapid advancement of the accession process of the Eastern Partnership states - Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, which are at the forefront of the front launched as a result of the illegal and unprovoked military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine ", said Daniel Ionita.
Asked what Romania will do if Russia attacks Moldova, Daniel Ionita replied: "Romania will be consistent on the multilateral platforms to which it has access, including the EU and NATO. In Bucharest, absolutely all scenarios are taken into account. The Transnistrian region is a matter of concern for all, from several perspectives. This is an element of maximum concern ", Ioniţă pointed out.
At the end of his term, Daniel Ioniţă said: “I am leaving with the satisfaction of the fact that I have fulfilled my mandate, that the Republic of Moldova chose, I hope, an irreversible path to the EU. You have confidence in the European future and in the unconditional, disinterested support of Romania ", concluded Daniel Ioniţă.
