Analysts: Maia Sandu has faced challenges and has a remarkable position externally
The energy crisis, the reform of the judiciary and the fight against corruption are the challenges that President Maia Sandu has bravely faced, for which she has gained a remarkable position internationally. Opinions belong to political analysts and were made during the Special Edition of Radio Moldova, in the context of a one-year term as head of state.
The political commentator, Victor Ciobanu, declared during the show that the achievements are visible, and it is premature to talk about Maia Sandu's arrears.
"Courage and honesty are the words that characterize Maia Sandu. In the 12 months, the achievements have been extraordinary. We all need to give her a share of confidence, because she is still at the beginning of her term and I am confident that if she continues in the same way, success will be on her side. (...) The results are unfortunate, such as the gas crisis, justice reform, the fight against corruption, etc. Expectations were expected to be very high for the current government, but here we have to look at the point where both Maia Sandu and the current government started. (...) This is the period with the greatest openness on the part of the European partners towards a country president. She is also the first head of state in the Republic of Moldova to enjoy such great confidence in the West, "said political commentator Victor Ciobanu.
Contacted by phone, the Romanian journalist, Cristian Tudor Popescu, said that it is not easy to cope with the current tasks, and the courage shown by the head of state is enviable because she has to face a left-wing electorate, made up of socialists and communists, which is far from democratic values.
"It is a great chance for the Republic of Moldova, I was amazed when I saw that Maia Sandu won the elections and it would be good for her to be president of Romania as well. Maia Sandu has a very remarkable position in relation to the West, but that does not reduce the difficult problems she has to solve in the country. I have been to the Republic of Moldova several times and I have felt the pain of Bolshevism which has not disappeared. She has a lot to fight for ", mentioned the Romanian journalist, Cristian Tudor Popescu.
On December 24, 2020, Maia Sandu was sworn in, and became the first woman president of the Republic of Moldova, elected with 57.75% of the votes.
