Maia Sandu at GLOBSEC Forum: "The Republic of Moldova is not looking for shortcuts to the European Union"
The Republic of Moldova is not looking for "shortcuts" to the European Union, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The statements were made by President Maia Sandu at the GLOBSEC Forum in Bratislava, which was attended by the head of state in a teleconference format.
"Just because you are a candidate does not mean accepting us in the EU. We are not looking for a shortcut, we realize that we have a long way to go ", said Maia Sandu.
According to the President of the Republic of Moldova, a clear European perspective would offer the citizens of our country the promise of a better, more prosperous future in the uncertain situation of the region.
Maia Sandu said for the participants of the GLOBSEC Forum Bratislava conference that they are working on reforming the judiciary and fighting corruption, and the inclusion of the Republic of Moldova in the European Union could help to maintain democracy.
The message was launched at the "Strengthening the Neighborhood: Partnership with Eastern Allies" panel, which discussed Moldova's and Georgia's applications to join the European Union in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine.
