The Company "Teleradio-Moldova", returned under parliamentary control

The Company "Teleradio Moldova" was returned under parliamentary control. During today's plenary session, a draft law amending the Code of Audiovisual Media Services was approved, in the final reading, with the vote of 56 deputies.

"On October 26, public consultations were held. These were attended by representatives of media service providers, representatives of civil organizations. Following the public consultations, a synthesis of the objections and proposals was drawn up, which also includes the recommendations sent to the commission by the representatives of the civil society," said Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, president of the Parliamentary Media Commission.

According to the authors of the project, the objective of this draft law is to hold the national public provider, the "Teleradio-Moldova" Company, accountable.

The document provides for the return under parliamentary control of the national public media service provider. This is given that, until 2019, the "Teleradio-Moldova" Company has always been under the control of the Legislature.

Another provision of the draft law is the revision of the mechanism for the composition of the Supervisory Board of the national public media service provider and the Audiovisual Council (CA), in order to establish clarity and proportional representation in the process of nominating candidates for the position of member of these councils.

At the same time, the draft law stipulates that the members of the Board of Directors may be dismissed in case the Parliament rejects the annual activity report.
