Parliament ratified the agreement on the transfer of land for the construction of the US Embassy in Chisinau

The Parliament approved in the second reading the draft ratification of the Agreement, drawn up by exchange of notes, between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States of America on the land for the construction of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. 55 deputies from the PAS faction voted for the approval of the document.

At the beginning of Thursday's meeting, the factions of the "Şor" Party and the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) demanded that this bill be excluded from the agenda.

However, the proposal did not meet the required number of votes.

Later, the BCS deputies announced that they were leaving the sitting of the Parliament in protest.

"This is not the first time we have witnessed the fact that any proposals from our colleagues, even when there are legislative initiatives that have the approval of the Government and were discussed in the meetings of the Commissions, are not included in the agenda and are not discussed by the plenary of the Parliament. I'm not talking about violating Parliament's Rules of Procedure, which stipulate that the day of the opposition must be regular. Today we proposed several projects that really belong to the interest of the citizens, we also asked for the project related to the Republican Stadium to be excluded, but you did not want it ", said the BCS secretary, Vasile Bolea.

We remind you that the agreement was signed on July 12, 2019, and its ratification offers the right to purchase the land for the construction of a new headquarters of the US Embassy in Chisinau.

On April 21, the agreement to transfer the Republican Stadium to the US Embassy was voted on in first reading.

On July 29, 2021, the Constitutional Court (CCM) declared unconstitutional, the Parliament's decision to repeal the law on the transfer of the Republican Stadium for the construction of a new Embassy complex.
