Reintegration Bureau reacts to the general's statements that Transnistria is the target of the Russian army
In the context of messages released by some Russian military officials, regarding the existence of alleged cases of violation of the rights of Russian speakers in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, the Office of Reintegration Policies issued a statement announcing that such allegations lead to tension and mistrust in society and are unacceptable.
"On the territory of the Republic of Moldova, a member state of the Council of Europe, the fundamental rights and freedoms of all inhabitants are guaranteed and respected, regardless of race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, etc. And all these rights are respected in the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities.
At the same time, given the military presence of the Russian Federation in the Transnistrian region, the Russian side exercises effective control over this region of the Republic of Moldova, a fact found in numerous rulings of the European Court of Human Rights.
We remind you that the Transnistrian region is an inalienable part of the unitary and indivisible territorial state of the Republic of Moldova. All mediators and observers in the "5 + 2" negotiating format, including the Russian Federation, have consistently supported the achievement of a comprehensive, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, within recognized borders. by the international community.
Likewise, Article 5 of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation of November 19, 2001 expressly recognizes that each of the parties shall refrain from any action capable of prejudicing the other party, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
We also emphasize that the Republic of Moldova, according to its Constitution, is a neutral state and we demand that this principle be respected by all international actors, including the Russian Federation.
Thus, we reiterate the need to respect the commitments established at bilateral and international level and to avoid the messages that can create dissensions and artificial outbreaks of tension ”.
Major General Rustam Minnekaev, Deputy Commander of Troops in the Central Military District of the Russian Army, announced that in the second stage of the "special operation" in Ukraine, the Russian army must gain full control of the Donbas region and southern regions of Ukraine. This will allow the creation of a land corridor to Crimea, but also an exit to Transnistria, where "the rights of the Russian-speaking population are also affected," he was quoted as saying by TASS.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a "special military operation for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine." The decision drew sanctions on Russia from the EU, the United States and other countries.
