Titus Corlăţean: Corruption in the Republic of Moldova must be removed with legal instruments, not political ones
For any country aspiring to membership of the European Union, as is the case of the Republic of Moldova, there must be internal political will, as it was in Romania, when the goal of European accession was supported by both the power and the opposition. The opinion was expressed by the MEP Titus Corlăţean in an interview for Radio Moldova.
The official also referred to the most important reforms that the Republic of Moldova must implement as a matter of priority, these together with an internal political will, with a broad consensus and the combination of government and opposition efforts.
"It is very important that European institutions and legislation are properly put in place and that real independence of the judiciary is ensured. For the citizen to have the feeling that his interests, fundamental rights and freedoms are defended by the independent institutions within the judiciary, that there is an economic climate, which is recovering. And corruption must be removed with legal instruments, not political ones. Not in a political war, but in a war against crime ", said Corlăţeanu.
At the same time, the MEP mentioned the role of the Council of Europe in the new security architecture, configured after the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
