In the north of Moldova, it cooks well and a lot! Several teachers from Romania were convinced of this, in search of the culinary traditions and customs preserved in different rural localities in our country. The housewives from Şolcani village, Soroca district, rolled up their sleeves and prepared sarmăluţe, pies with lap belts, white grandmother and black grandmother, all to impress the guests and showed that in the locality the old customs of the ancestors are kept with sanctity.

The skill of the housewives from Şolcani regarding the preparation of the dishes is unsurpassed, and in order to exchange culinary secrets they gather in the center of the village at the huge oven, where a traditional festival is organized every year.

The professors from the universities of Cluj, Timişoara and Bacău got acquainted with the real traditional dishes of the inhabitants of Şolcani and say that the cuisine of this area has its specificity.

The event was organized as part of a research project on the culinary traditions and customs of Romanians in Moldova.
