The doors of the "Lucian Blaga" Theoretical High School in Tiraspol remain closed
The only school in the Transnistrian region with teaching in Romanian remained behind closed doors. Thus, more than 200 students studying at the "Lucian Blaga" High School in Tiraspol will probably not return to classes at the beginning of the school year, if the authorities in Chisinau do not take action. According to the former director of the high school, the Tiraspol regime refused to register the "Lucian Blaga" Theoretical High School in Tiraspol, suspending its activity for a period of at least three months. At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Vlad Kulminski, gives assurances that this week the issue will be resolved, reports Moldova 1.
Ion Iovcev was released from the position of director of the "Lucian Blaga" High School on June 22, based on an order signed by the former Minister of Education, Liliana Pogolşa. The former director claims that the actions of the Tiraspol regime aim at obtaining certain concessions from the Chisinau authorities.
"I warned the former governors, the former Minister of Education, and told them that there would be big problems after my resignation order, because I know very well what is in Tiraspol and using these moments, those in Tiraspol began to do what they did before in critical moments. Now, in connection with the new government, they have found the weak link again: "Lucian Blaga" High School. I said it and I say it now: "Lucian Blaga" High School is a hostage in Tiraspol and I do not think that the high school will be closed, but there is some pressure now to receive something from Chisinau again," said the former director of "Lucian Blaga" High School from Tiraspol, Ion Iovcev.
The ombudsman, Maia Bănărescu, says that in this way the fundamental right to education is violated. The Ombudsman considers that the refusal to register the Theoretical High School "Lucian Blaga" will substantially infringe the right to education of students attending this institution and will not allow them to be included in the educational process in the new school year 2021-2022.
"If the documents are not completed correctly within three months, then, in general, the activity is now stopped, but there is a risk in three months that the high school in general will be deleted from the register. I believe that our authorities have the diligence to take out the problem as soon as possible to ensure children's access to education, that this is a flagrant violation of children's right to education," said Maia Bănărescu, the ombudsman.
The Promo-LEX Association also finds in Tiraspol actions a serious violation of the right to education. The organization calls on the constitutional authorities in Chisinau to consolidate their efforts to ensure the functionality of the "Lucian Blaga" Theoretical High School.
There is pressure from the Tiraspol regime, especially the "Lucian Blaga" High School, because it is a high school right in the heart of the Transnistrian region or the territory controlled by the Tiraspol regime. The pressure against this high school, the administration, the children and the parents has always been in a more special way. The European Court in 2012 found that these institutions are state institutions of the Republic of Moldova," said Ion Manole, President of Promo-LEX.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Vlad Kulminski gives assurances that the issue will be resolved this week.
"It is an absolute priority for us. I can assure you that the government is dealing with these problems. We take all measures, we use all the existing and available mechanisms for us to solve this problem. "The right to education of children for us is a red line and is an absolute priority and the "Lucian Blaga" High School must be able to resume its activity as soon as possible," said Vlad Kulminski, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration.
