Several ambassadors participated in an action to clean public spaces in Străşeni
The great cleaning has begun. The delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova organised a public mobilisation action, carried out in the context of the World Day of Cleanliness. A large group of diplomats accredited in the Republic of Moldova mobilised the inhabitants of the municipality of Străşeni to participate in an action to clean the public spaces in the locality. World Cleanup Day is an initiative that brings together millions of volunteers, governments and organisations from 191 countries, to address the global problem of waste and build a more sustainable planet, reports Moldova 1.
Pinilor Park, at the entrance to Străşeni from Călăraşi, gathered dozens of people from students to diplomats who armed themselves with cleaning bags and gloves and got to work.
"I want to help the Străşeni community, to make it a cleaner place, a place where we can have visitors";
"I understood that a park will be built here and we are the ones who will come here and stay and it will be clean";
"Instead of staying at home, wasting time, I came here and did a good thing."
And the ambassadors left the office for a day and worked in the open air.
"It is something unusual for us, because on an ordinary day we would have been in discussions with different diplomats and officials from the Republic of Moldova. I think that our action is very important for the country, because it is the first time that the Republic of Moldova joins this global cleaning event", said Janis Mazeiks, the EU ambassador.
"Cleanliness in the surroundings is a tradition in Sweden since 1970. I am very happy that this practice is also implemented in the Republic of Moldova. On Saturday I will go to a locality near the Dniester river, where I will continue the cleaning", mentioned Katarina Fried, the ambassador of Sweden.
"We intend for this area to become a recreational area for the community. We have about 70 officials, for us it is a message of unity. Absolutely all the branches, the wood that is accumulated from this sector and from other sectors of the town will be transported for the pellet production process", says Valentina Casian, mayor of Străşeni.
World Cleanliness Day is marked every year on September 17. In the following days, there will be actions to clean the rainwater collection and drainage channels in Străşeni.
