New laboratory confirmed influenza cases

Last week, there were over 2,800 acute respiratory tract infections in the capital, 4% more than the same period last year. The most affected remain the children. According to the head of the General Direction of Social Assistance and Health within the Chisinau City Hall, Tatiana Bucearschi, 98 people were hospitalized with respiratory infections.

“So far, 2,882 new cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections have been reported. Compared to the same period of the previous season, there is a 4.3-percent increase. The most affected remain children up to 4 years-old - 1,010 cases and 5 to 14 years-old - 807 cases. During the mentioned period, 98 patients were hospitalized. Also, during the reporting period, 19 suspected cases of influenza were registered, among which four cases were confirmed in the laboratory: three cases type A1H1 and one case type H3N2. Death cases were not registered," says Tatiana Bucearschi.

In addition, there were five cases of tuberculosis, two in rural area. In order to avoid the flu disease, epidemiologists recommend the population to vaccinate, not resort to self-treatment and to call the doctor at the first symptoms of the disease. At the same time, 37 cases of scarlet fever, three cases of mumps, two cases of whooping cough and 71 cases of chickenpox were recorded.

In the last few months, three people have suffered from hypothermia, and two of them have lost their lives.

At the same time, at the Hosting Center for the Homeless, 49 people were accommodated at night and 25 - during the daytime. In the Center's yard, a tent was erected for the homeless to drink hot tea.
