The number of kidney transplants decreased in 2018

The number of kidney transplants decreased last year and hepatic interventions ones has hardly reached the norm set by the authorities, TV Moldova 1 reports. According to the National Transplant Agency, the situation is due to the small number of donated organs, as well as the poor health of the donors. At the same time, the agency plans 16 liver operations and 35 kidney transplants in 2019.

According to agency representatives, last year, the number of kidney transplants decreased compared to 2017, because potential donors suffered from various diseases.

Over the last four years, the National Transplant Agency has managed to open several organ procurement centers in Chisinau. In the next years, it is hoped that these will be extended also in the Balti, Cahul, Orhei, Hincesti and Ungheni districts, in order to increase the number of donors.
