People in need will receive food packages for the Easter meal

People in need will enjoy food packages for the Easter holidays and hot meals throughout the year. For the 13th consecutive year, the Social Mission "Diaconia" of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia carried out the "Meal of Joy" Campaign. On the eve of Palm Sunday, at the entrance to the shops in the country, boxes for food collection were installed, donated by all those who visit the commercial units, Moldova 1 reports.

In more than 120 stores across the country, volunteers greeted shoppers with the urge to donate hard-to-eat food to those in need.

"I have been to most of the Easter campaigns organised so far. I am a team leader in the campaign and it is a very important event for Diaconia and for all those in need in the Republic of Moldova, because for many this is the only source of food”;

"These products are to be collected. They will distribute food packages immediately for the holiday meal, especially the products that are intended for this event. The rest of the products will be destined to become hot lunches throughout the year. They will go for social canteens and residential centres," says Igor Belei, director of the "Diaconia" Mission.

Last year, more than 70 tonnes of food were collected during the campaign.
