Over a hundred stray dogs, sheltered and cared for at a specialized center in Ciorescu
More than a hundred stray dogs are housed at a specialized center in the commune of Ciorescu, Chisinau. Here, the quadrupeds are sterilized, vaccinated, fed and kept for a while, but in the meantime they are also looking for masters, Moldova 1 reports.
The animals that arrive here suffer from certain health problems. Before being allowed to run through the courtyard of the center, they must go through the veterinarian's office. The members of the foundation claim that a few years ago the problem of stray animals was a serious one, but over time it has improved.
"Now, due to the involvement of local public authorities, volunteers, children, teachers, this issue is being discussed, so it is no longer a taboo issue, but people are discussing it, trying to find solutions," said Diana Manoli, project manager.
In order to reduce the number of stray dogs and cats, the foundation deals with the sterilization of stray animals, namely those cared for by the elderly and low-income people. The project manager, Diana Manoli, being always present at the proceedings, mentions that people react positively, and some even cry of happiness. The project was carried out with the support of the Animal Control and Protection Department and will last until December 15.
"Some people can't believe it, because the project involves, in addition to sterilization and vaccination against animal rabies, microchipping and passport issuance, a very large project, people cry with emotions, thank you all in general," says Diana Manoli.
The Moldovan-German "Laika" Foundation in Ciorescu opened its doors to stray animals in 2004.
