Young people from the Republic of Moldova, who study in Romania, will benefit from twice as bigger scholarships

Good news for young people from the Republic of Moldova, who are studying in Romania. They will benefit from scholarships twice as big as at present. Specifically, the monthly payments will increase from 320 lei to 700 Romanian lei (the equivalent of about 140 euros).

The Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament has adopted a draft law that provides for the granting of scholarships to Romanians everywhere under the same conditions as those for Romanian students with citizenship and domicile in Romania.

Thus, the minimum amount of scholarships for Romanians everywhere will be equal to the value of social scholarships granted to Romanian students in undergraduate and master's degree cycles, respectively with the value of the scholarship for doctoral studies for students in the doctoral degree cycle. This means, in practice, doubling the scholarships awarded to Romanians everywhere for studies in Romania.

"Scholarships for Romanians everywhere are granted throughout the calendar year, including during the summer holidays, and their beneficiaries can also receive scholarships for academic performance, under the same conditions as Romanian students," according to the bill. These provisions are to enter into force starting with the academic year 2023 - 2024.

Currently, 4,843 Romanians from all over the world are enrolled in university education in Romania. Their scholarships are 65 euros / month for undergraduate students, 75 euros / month for master's students and 85 euros / month for doctoral students. In addition, Romanians everywhere do not benefit from scholarships during the summer. Most of the beneficiaries are Romanians from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia and other countries in the Baltic Peninsula.
