More and more people are diagnosed with diabetes. ANSP: The number has doubled in recent years
The number of people with diabetes has doubled in the last 12 years, say representatives from the National Public Health Agency (ASP). According to doctors, recently diabetes affects more and more young people, reports Radio Moldova.
In the last 12 years, compared to other European countries, in the Republic of Moldova the rate of diabetes has increased considerably. According to ANSP, in recent years there has been an increase in mortality from this disease from 359 deaths in 2010 to 466 in 2020.
Diabetes occurs due to improper diet, tobacco and alcohol consumption, but also hypertension, Liliana Arnăut, the specialist in health promotion from the National Public Health Agency said for Radio Moldova.
"The most affected people are from 45 years old and above. There are already cases of type II diabetes in younger people. There are also increasing cases in which children are born with type I diabetes. To keep it under control, they should eat healthy, maintain a healthy body weight, be active for at least 30 minutes, quit smoking and reduce alcohol consumption, monitor blood sugar levels and keep blood pressure under control," said Liliana Arnăut.
We remind that today is the World Diabetes Day. This year the theme of World Diabetes Day is "Access to diabetes care". Thus, doctors will focus their activities to ensure better access to quality education in diabetes management.
