Over 60 applicants to compete for the rehabilitation of the National Philharmonic

Over 60 companies applied to the international competition for architectural solutions for the rehabilitation of the "Serghei Lunchevici" National Philharmonic. Of these, ten companies are from the Republic of Moldova, and the others are from outside the country, prestigious and experienced in the field. This was announced by the Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan, at the Government meeting, IPN reports.

The minister recalled that it is about the contest "Reviving the Philharmonic", launched two years after the fire at the Philharmonic. According to him, the list of companies is kept secret for the time being, as applicants can still enter the competition until January.

Sergiu Prodan hopes that at the beginning of March there will be a wide range of ideas regarding the rehabilitation of the Philharmonic. Later, an international jury, made up of architects and music specialists, will select the first three places. Then public consultations will be organised to develop a vision for the reconstruction of the cultural objective.

The money collected from donations for the reconstruction of the Philharmonic will be used including for the creation of the project outline, the elaboration of which will be commissioned to the winner of the competition.

On September 24, 2020, following a devastating fire, a large part of the headquarters of the "Serghei Lunchevici" National Philharmonic was devastated by flames. The library, the great hall, the rehearsal rooms, as well as other spaces, as well as numerous musical instruments, were destroyed. Currently, the "Folklor" Folk Music Orchestra, the "Serghei Lunchevici" National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra are performing at the Palace of the Republic.
