European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, visiting Chisinau

European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. In Chisinau, the European official will have meetings with the country's leadership and will deliver a speech in the plenary session of the Parliament.

According to the program, on Saturday, November 26, together with Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa, Virginijus Sinkevičius will plant 12 maple trees at the Chisinau Botanical Garden. Through this action, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries shows his solidarity with the "Plant your Future" initiative - the greening campaign of the Republic of Moldova, carried out under the auspices of the country's state authorities.

Virginijus Sinkevičius was born on November 4, 1990. In 2016, he became a member of the Lithuanian parliament and leader of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union group. Since November 2017, he has been Minister of Economy and Innovation in Lithuania. In 2018, he was included in the list of the 100 most influential young people in the Government and won the award for the best solution for a better business environment.

On September 10, 2019, at the proposal from Lithuania for the new European Commission, Virginijus Sinkevičius received the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries portfolio.
