Igor Grosu: "Transnistrian issue must be settled in peace"

The Transnistrian issue must be resolved peacefully at the negotiating table, and the speedy settlement of the conflict, as some have suggested, could have serious consequences. This was announced by the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, in an interview during the "Day by Day" show on Radio Moldova.

"There is no quick solution to the Transnistrian conflict. The Transnistrian issue must be resolved, only peacefully at the negotiating table. We have seen that the citizens on the left bank of the Nistru started to vote differently, right after the latest events they are worried, they are coming from the right bank, they are getting their passports and they do not want the conflict to escalate ", said Igor Grosu.

At the same time, the head of the Legislature noted that negotiations in the 5 + 2 format for resolving the conflict will not be able to resume until the end of the war in Ukraine, given that Russia and Ukraine, which have the status of negotiators in this format, are belligerent parties. This format is suspended until the war against Ukraine is stopped, said Igor Grosu

Referring to the recent armed attacks on the left bank of the Nistru, the Speaker of Parliament suggested that they were provoked by Russian secret services, but the majority of the population and the region's separatist administration are against involvement in the war in the neighboring country.

We remind you that some Ukrainian officials said that they could help the Republic of Moldova take control of the Transnistrian region, where Russian military and ammunition are illegally stationed, a solution refused by Chisinau.
