Measures for the protection of aquatic resources, discussed in Soroca

With years, water resources are becoming more and more scarce. At present, around 500 cubic meters of water is available for an inhabitant, while the international standard is 1,700 cubic meters per capita or more than three times as large. The topic was discussed in Soroca at a regional conference, where several measures for the capitalization and protection of water resources were proposed, Moldova 1 reports.

Experts say that in Nistru and Prut rivers, which are the main water sources in the country, water quality is relatively good, which can not be said of internal rivers.

Specialists propose a European river basin management method.

The national water supply strategy is in the process of updating with an action plan for the next 4 years.

"First, the correct appreciation of the available water resources, both on surface and underground ones. Also applying a methodology for assessing the quality of water resources, analyzing the economic efficiency of using water resources," said the representative of the Institute of Ecology and Geography, Iurie Bejan.

At the end of the conference, organized by the Moldovan Ecological Movement, it was presented the exhibition entitled Apele Moldovei. Underground water resources currently account for 65% of the total water consumption, of which 95% of the rural population and 35% of the urban population are fed through 3,000 artesian fountains. Surface water accounts for almost 35% of consumption, and reservoirs and springs - 0.2%.
