Oleg Serebrian: Ukraine war affects negotiation process with Transnistrian region

The war in Ukraine has affected negotiations with the Transnistrian region. Negotiations with Tiraspol are currently frozen, and the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute in the future depends heavily on developments in Ukraine. The statement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian in a show for a private TV channel, Radio Moldova reports.

According to him, the Transnistrian file is increasingly becoming an annex to the problem facing Ukraine: "The whole agenda for the first half of the year in relations with Tiraspol has been turned upside down. The conflict in the east of the Republic of Moldova is becoming more and more an annex of the problem facing Ukraine. The process of negotiating and resolving the Transnistrian conflict will depend on the evolution of the conflict in Ukraine. If the military actions get too close to the border of the Republic of Moldova, the panic will indirectly spread, "said Oleg Serebrian.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian said there was currently no imminent danger of an attack or a military conflict by the Transnistrian region.

" There are several scenarios that can lead to problems on the inside: the large number of refugees, the pressure on the economic system. That is, of a different nature than security, ”Serebrian added.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Integration said that there are currently about 6,000 refugees in the Transnistrian region, most of whom are housed in families, which are relatives of those who hosted them.
