Judges of the Constitutional Court resigned
Judges of the Constitutional Court in Moldova (CCM) resigned in corpore. Termination of office and vacancy of judges of the Constitutional Court in Moldova will be announced to the competent authorities to appoint new judges, reads a press release issued by the CCM.
Judge Veaceslav Zaporojan was empowered by the plenary of the Constitutional Court to exercise the administrative powers of the President of the Court until a new president of the CCM is elected.
President Igor Dodon came up with a reaction and welcomed the resignation of judges.
"I welcome the decision, though delayed, of the members of the Constitutional Court in Moldova. This solution was the only reasonable one in the current context. The bodies responsible for appointing judges (the Parliament, the Government and the Superior Council of Magistrates) are to start as a matter of urgency the procedures for the appointment of judges of the High Court. The appointment of new judges is an objective of particular importance in the light of the latest national events, but also of the opinions expressed by the external partners. Thus, this exercise should be focused exclusively on the criteria of integrity, professionalism, irreproachability, and last but not least of objectivity. I would like to express confidence in the fact that the new componence of the Constitutional Court will be an independent one, will perform the noble mission of guaranteeing the supremacy of the Constitution, will obey the Supreme Law and will exclude political influences and backstage games", wrote the president on his Facebook page.
