Moldova will not participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2025

On January 22, the public company "Teleradio-Moldova" organized a press conference to announce its withdrawal from the 69th edition of Eurovision Song Contest. The announcement was made by the TV Director Corneliu Durnescu and the Head of Delegation Daniela Crudu.

The reason for refusing to participate is the "economic, administrative and artistic challenges" faced by the public broadcaster.

Corneliu Durnescu said: "We have consulted music specialists and most of them expressed serious reservations about Moldova's participation this year, in exact agreement with the opinion of the jury that TRM has selected for this edition. We respect the opinions of the professionals and the general public and understand that we have to make responsible decisions that reflect the realities".

In the context of the national selection, Daniela Crudu said: "This year has highlighted certain challenges, including a decrease in public interest and in the overall quality of the songs and artistic performances. This has led to a negative perception among specialists and the public, highlighting the need for substantial reform in the selection process".

The cancellation of participation in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest does not mean complete withdrawal from the competition. One of the aims of the decision is to review the criteria and methodology for selecting the country's representative for the international edition of the contest.

Despite the withdrawal, TV Moldova 1 will broadcast the ESC semi-finals and grand final, scheduled for May 13, 15 and 17.
