An international competition was announced for the development of a concept for the National Philharmonic building (VIDEO)

Two years after the fire that devastated the building of the "Serghei Lunchevici" Philharmonic, the Ministry of Culture is launching an initiative to rehabilitate the cultural edifice. In the first phase of the "Reviving Philharmonic" project, an international architectural competition was announced to develop a concept for the National Philharmonic building, informs Moldova 1.

Through this competition, design houses with experience in the construction of concert halls will be identified.

"We discovered that the expectations are absolutely different. Starting from the idea of restoring it exactly as it was. And up to the idea of demolishing everything and building an absolutely new Philharmonic on the spot", reported the Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan.

The building should retain its classical style, and the concert hall should have perfect acoustics for an academic music orchestra.

"I see this building, this institution as a magnet that will attract the world, not those who will enter there but passing by it. It must cause you some mysterious feelings. Those who will design should take into account these characteristics of the word Philharmonic", said the composer Eugen Doga.

"We have great hope that we will re-enter our beautiful home, that this edifice will be rebuilt and we will regain that name of the most important musical concert institution", mentioned the director of the philharmonic, Svetlana Bivol.

The project will be monitored by a responsible Council. Potential participants can access the specifications and the contest regulations on the project's official page. The winner will be announced on March 1, 2023.
