Andrei Spânu: "The increase in the price of natural gas on the international market will not immediately affect domestic tariffs"

The government promises that the increase in the price of natural gas on the international market will not immediately affect domestic tariffs in the Republic of Moldova. The Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spinu, claims that in our country a mechanism for setting natural gas prices is applied, different from the one used abroad. At the same time, according to him, the Government also provides a possible support program for citizens in the cold period of the year, in case of increasing the natural gas tariffs, transmits Moldova 1.

"We are currently watching what is happening.  We are in talks with the company from the Republic of Moldova, the company from the Republic of Moldova is in talks with Gazprom.  We will probably have some discussions with Gazprom on the gas issue in the next period.  At the moment, it is premature to state clearly what the tariffs will be and how the price for citizens will evolve.  We have another mechanism for setting prices for our country," said Andrei Spânu, Minister of Infrastructure.

It should be noted that in Europe, natural gas prices continue to rise recently due to increasing uncertainties over security of supply this winter.  Several experts in the country believe that this trend could lead to higher gas prices for consumers in the Republic of Moldova.
