Plums rank second in the list of the most exported fresh fruits from the Republic of Moldova
Plums occupy the second place in the list of the most exported fresh fruits from the Republic of Moldova, ranking our country among the top 10 exporters in the world, reports Moldova 1.
The data show that in the Republic of Moldova, the plum culture, one of the basic fruit crops, occupies the second place after the apple in production volume and occupied area and the first place among stone crops, with an exported volume in 2021 of almost 45 thousand tons of plums delivered fresh.
Currently, the area occupied by plum plantations is more than 22 thousand hectares, of which almost 20 thousand hectares represent plantations in fruit, with a production volume of more than 123 thousand tons and an average harvest of almost 6 tons per hectare.
The authorities report an increase in the harvest from 4.6 tons per hectare in 2014 to 6.81 tons in 2021. The forecast for 2021-2025 of the volume of plum production will have an upward trend, about 150 thousand tons in 2025, which will constitute a 50% increase compared to 2020 due to intensive orchard planting.
