The Republic of Moldova will be able to procure gas from Greece, Turkey and Romania through the gas pipeline system in Bulgaria
In a ceremony, the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria signed an access and transport contract for natural gas through the gas transport networks of "Bulgartransgaz". The document was signed by the heads of the companies in the presence of the presidents of the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria.
"I welcome the signing of the collaboration contract between "Energocom" and the natural gas transport company "Bulgartransgaz". Access to alternative energy resources will strengthen our energy independence and help us to become more resilient in the current crisis", declared Maia Sandu.
"In the face of the great challenges not only in the field of security but also in the economy, caused by the interruption of the supply of energy resources, the increase in the prices of energy resources and inflation, we can face the challenges only if we work in solidarity. The contract signed today is an important step in this field", said the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev.
The contract for access and transportation of natural gas through the gas pipeline networks in Bulgaria was signed by the executive director of "Bulgartransgaz" Vladimir Malinov and the acting general director of "Energocom" Vadim Bînzari. Thanks to this contract, through the gas transport system from Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova will be able to receive gas from Greece, Turkey and Romania.
"Bulgaria is successful in diversifying natural gas sources by building connections between gas supply systems in Bulgaria and neighbouring countries and through liquefied gas terminals. The last option to procure liquefied gas has reduced the price in Bulgaria twice. Thus, we can select gas producers from all over the world, based on the price and security of deliveries. On the other hand, we have the Trans-Balkan Gas Pipeline, which for years has ensured gas deliveries from north to south through the Republic of Moldova. On the other hand, we can deliver gas from south to north through Greece, Turkey and Romania to the Republic of Moldova.
By signing this contract, we extend our hand to the Republic of Moldova and the Moldovan people in a difficult situation. It is an example of solidarity and common approach to the crisis to help the Republic of Moldova to diversify its energy resources. It also means lower prices and security in deliveries," said the Bulgarian president.
President Maia Sandu mentioned that for our country the signed contract means the opening of transit "for quantities that we will be able to obtain from elsewhere and for periods when it suits us". "This means creating technical possibilities for supply from alternative sources, regardless of whether we are talking about tomorrow or next year", said Maia Sandu.
For his part, Rumen Rudev mentioned that through the gas pipeline in question it is possible to transit from south to north an amount of 15 billion cubic metres of gas annually.
"Separately, three billion cubic metres are intended for the interconnection system between Romania and Bulgaria. The Republic of Moldova will have access to liquefied gas from the terminals in Greece and Turkey. The Republic of Moldova can negotiate and conclude delivery contracts with gas suppliers, and we can transport these gases", said the Bulgarian president.
