The highest volcano in Eurasia began to erupt and throw volcanic bombs
The Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano, in Kamchatka, began to erupt, reports RIA Novosti, quoted by Meduza, which takes the information from the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far East Branch, of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The Kliuchevskoi summit crater eruption began after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off the east coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula on the night of November 20. "There are unique ejections of hot bombs, with a frequency of up to 10 explosions per hour. Due to the significant depth of the crater, about 200 metres, only some of them are visible above the rim," said Alexei Ozerov, director of the Institute of Volcanology. He admitted that the eruption will intensify. The institute added that the Shiveluch volcano, in Kamceatka, also became extremely active: on the last day, it threw ash twice, at 5,000 and 4,600 metres.
Klyuchevskaya Sopka is an active stratovolcano. It is considered the highest active volcano in Eurasia, with an altitude of 4,800 metres. The nearest settlements are located 45 kilometres from it. The last eruption at the top of the volcano began in October 2020 and lasted until February 8, 2021.
