Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus dies at the age of 64

The Belarusian Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makei, died suddenly at the age of 64, the Belta news agency reported today. According to the cited source, the cause of death is unknown. We remind that at the beginning of this week, the head of diplomacy from Minsk, Vladimir Makei, participated in Yerevan at the conference of the Collective Security Treaty Organization - a military alliance of several post-Soviet states. On Monday, the Belarusian official was to meet with his Russian counterpart Serghei Lavrov.

In 2020, before the presidential elections and  anti-government protests in Belarus, Vladimir Makei had been one of the initiators of efforts to improve Belarus' relations with the West and criticized Russia. Later, he suddenly changed his attitude, claiming that the protests were inspired by agents of the West.

Vladimir Makei was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus since 2012.
